Continuing our run of successes in Brent (we had another one just two days ago), this proposal was for a first-floor extension to the rear of a house.
The council was unhappy with the proposed first-floor extension because the homeowner had already built a 6-metre-deep extension at ground floor and a rear dormer window at roof level using his permitted development rights.
The council had argued that the combination of extensions was excessive, but it didn’t seem to take account of the fact that the other extensions had already been built and were lawful. It only need to consider the new, and quite small, first floor element.

The inspector agreed with us that the extension was not large, was neatly designed and would integrate well with the other extensions at the house. We were delighted when the appeal was allowed and planning permission was granted.
